San Diego WIC Internship & Careers

There are five WIC-based dietetic internships in California, each with its own applicant selection process. At one, you may be required to work for the WIC Agency sponsoring the program; at another, priority for selection is offered to applicants working for any California WIC program. Others participate in the AND’s national computer matching process for selecting interns.

Graduates with a Bachelors or Masters Degree in Nutrition may apply for positions at WIC as a Degreed Nutritionist.  This position will provide nutrition education in group and individual settings, develop nutrition care plans and provide counseling to pregnant women, infants and children under the age of five.  Contact the WIC agency in your area for the most current job announcements.

Working for WIC provides valuable skills by interacting with diverse populations in community nutrition and the right experiences needed to take the next step to become a Registered Dietitian. Qualified WIC employees receive selection priority for a WIC dietetic internship. Each WIC internship program has specific application and program requirements which can be found on their web site. WIC dietetic internships are accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND). WIC internships emphasize community nutrition, however excellent training is also provided in food service management, medical nutrition therapy and nutrition care process.

California WIC is working to provide the latest information on educational programs and resources to help employees advance their careers.
